Help save Connecticut Library Funding today!

Standard
Do you love your library?

With the proposed state budget cuts in place our libraries will suffer greatly.

Cuts to library services such as Connecticard mean CT residents will no longer be able to borrow from any public library in CT. Taxpayers saved $68M in 2014 by borrowing and not buying 4.5 million items.

Connecticut Library Consortium/Cooperative Library Support Unit cuts will cause taxpayers to lose $7.1M annually.

Grants would be cut that could help libraries already under financial strain to continue to provide important literacy services (reading, financial and digital), access to government services and much more.

Fight for our Libraries!

Standard

The Governor’s 2015-16 budget proposes to eliminate funding for Connecticard, CLC, and Grants to Public Libraries. This means that CT residents will NO LONGER be able to borrow from any public library across the state, and local libraries could be forced to shut their doors to their neighbors. The money saved by using Connecticard ($68M in 2014) will vanish.

Without proper funding, Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC) will be severely hampered in its mission of saving public libraries & taxpayers money (over $7.1M annually) by coordinating the purchase of books and other products for the state’s public, school, and academic libraries.

Eliminating the law that guarantees adequate local funding will severely restrict access to information for everyone, especially the people who need libraries the most; people who need help with literacy, access to government services, and so much more.
