The Governor’s 2015-16 budget proposes to eliminate funding for Connecticard, CLC, and Grants to Public Libraries. This means that CT residents will NO LONGER be able to borrow from any public library across the state, and local libraries could be forced to shut their doors to their neighbors. The money saved by using Connecticard ($68M in 2014) will vanish.
Without proper funding, Connecticut Library Consortium (CLC) will be severely hampered in its mission of saving public libraries & taxpayers money (over $7.1M annually) by coordinating the purchase of books and other products for the state’s public, school, and academic libraries.
Eliminating the law that guarantees adequate local funding will severely restrict access to information for everyone, especially the people who need libraries the most; people who need help with literacy, access to government services, and so much more.
